by Tom Gaine and Elizabeth Brennan
Winter Has Passed is the story of a Catholic Priest, born in 1929 in Kenmare, County Kerry, who studied for the priesthood at St. Kieran’s in Kilkenny before coming to Australia when he worked for 44 years. He retired in June 2001 and returned to Ireland to live. Winter Has Passed tells his story of growing up in rural Ireland, of roaming the mountains and rivers, of a way of life that no longer exists, of how he found his God in the poems and music of his beloved homeland. It tells of the tensions he experienced between the love of his homeland and the growing love for his new country, his maturing in this new wide open land and a dawning acceptance of all of humanity, his own and others.
